NHTA Scholarships for Members

New Haven Teachers Assocation offers registration scholarships for its members to the following conferences:  Good Teaching Conference (North), Urban Issues Conference, and the Equity and Human Rights Conference.  A one page written report summarizing the experience is a requirement for the scholarship.

Registration for the conference will be paid in full.  A $50 stipend will be given to offset travel and parking expenses.  NHTA Executive Board will award the scholarships with preference going to first time attendees.

NHTA Scholarships for Students of New Haven

The New Haven Teachers Asssociation has two scholarships for students of NHUSD.  The Polly Tung Scholarship and The Joanne Stevens Scholarship.  Contibutions through payroll deduction or a one-time contribution can be made by clicking on this link to fill out a contibution form.  Forms need to be turned into the Payroll Department at the ESC.

  • Polly Tung Scholarship
    Established by the New Haven Teachers Association in memory of Polly Tung, a long-time teacher at New Haven.  She taught at Alvarado Middle School and held a number of positions within NHTA, including president three times.  Students seeking to apply for the Scholarship should be seriously interested in taching in a public school system.  They should also have a substantial number of school and community service hours.
    • Award is $2000

  • Joanne Stevens Scholarship
    Established by the New Haven Teachers Association in memory of Joanne Stevens, a long time teacher at New Haven.  Students seeking to apply for the scholarship must be a Special Education Student.
    • Award is $500
