New Haven Parents to File Board Recall Papers Today at 1:30 p.m.

OAKLAND - As New Haven teachers spent their 12th powerful day on strike for the schools New Haven students deserve, parents Erika Viray Santos and Colleen Weaver will file paperwork at 1:30 this afternoon with the Alameda County Registrar of Voters to recall New Haven school board members Sharan Kaur, Jeff Wang and Lance Nishihira for their lack of leadership and failure to rein in out-of-control Superintendent Arlando Smith. The three trustees were served with notice of intent to recall during last night’s New Haven School Board meeting.

Community members and parents last night also presented a Vote of No Confidence in the entire school board and Superintendent Smith for their continued failure to fulfill their obligations to New Haven students and voters.

“The teachers in this school district deserve more from this school board and administration. Our Union City and South Hayward students deserve better than this. The voters of this community deserve stronger leaders who will do the right thing – and that is to make students and teachers a priority,” said New Haven parent Colleen Weaver.
