The New haven Teachers Association (NHTA) was established to ensure that the rights of the most valuable professionals, teachers, are protected. NHTA is an affiliate of the California Teachers Association (CTA) and the National Education Association (NEA). By being part of the local, state and national conversations of education issues, NHTA is current on all the challenges and changes that impact service in public education.
Day 10 of the New Haven Teachers Strike - No Deal Again – Next Session is Tuesday June 4
UNION CITY – Again, no deal in the negotiations to end the 10-day teacher strike against the New Haven Unified School District. The next bargaining session is scheduled for Tuesday, June 4 at 9 a.m.
The teachers made a counter-offer that includes a 6% salary increase over two years, restoration for the days on strike, and opportunities for retiring teachers to earn a full year of credit toward their retirement. NHTA President Joe Ku’e Angeles said the teacher negotiators have made considerable movement towards reaching a compromise. The district management team has not.
At a parent meeting Sunday afternoon Board of Trustee Member Sarabjit Kaur Cheema publicly announced her support of using the neutral fact-finding report as a basis for an agreement. “I encourage both parties to settle now around the fact-finder’s report,” she said.
